THE ANGELS LOOKED ON

1 Pet 1:10-12

INTRODUCTION: Peter speaks about the uniqueness of our salvation.  In preceding ages and even in the realm of the angels, it was not fully understood. There have been a number of events where angels have looked on. 

We need to understand a little about who angels are and what they do.  

Created beings.  

Created before God created man.  

They are not dead saints.  

We do not become angels.  

The Bible declares it is impossible to count the number of angels. There are several types of angels.  

Seraphims 

Cherubims 

Archangels 

Warring angels 

Messenger Angels 

Ministering Angels  

They were created to serve and worship God.  Sometime before man sinned in the Garden of Eden, Satan and one third of heavens angels rebelled against God.  The rebellious angels became what we know today as demons.  One reason these rebellious or fallen angels hate God and mankind is because God has not provide a means of redemption for them. 

THE ANGELS WERE THERE                                                                                        

1. At creation's morning. Job 38:4-7  God interrogates Job's friend Elihu.

2. At the fall of man.  Genesis 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.  How it must have brought back memories.

3. At the birth of Christ. Luke 2:8-14 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

4. At the Cross. Matthew 26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

5. At the Tomb.  Matthew 28:2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

6. At the Ascension.  Acts 1:11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

7. At Heaven's reunion.  Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: Revelation 5:11-13 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
