God’s Christmas Gift

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Intro:  Gospel in a nutshell.  Gospel in miniature.  Gospel in one verse. No other verse so completely sums up the Gospel.  Probably no verse in the Bible has been quoted or preached on as often as this.  Only when we stand in  the presence of the Heavenly Father will we know how many have trusted Him because of this verse.

The Person: (Who offers the Gift, its Source) “For God” God the creator of heaven and earth.  God the Father.   God the holy one, before whom one day every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.  Notice it does not say, “For Mary so loved the World” or “For John the Baptist so loved the World” or “For Joseph Smith so loved the world.”

The Passion: (Motivation, the reason it is provided) “so loved the world

The Price: (Means, free to us but it cost God His only begotten Son) “that he gave his only begotten Son

The Plan: (Invitation) “that whosoever believeth in him”

The Prize: (Reward) “should not perish, but have everlasting life” God is a God of Love but also of justice and holiness.  Those who reject the gift damn themselves.  It is sad to see people we love destroy their physical bodies with drugs, booze, immorality and careless living.  Yet, even greater is the foolishness of those who play Russian roulette with their eternal destiny.  The Bible says the fool says there is no God.  The fool procrastinates until tomorrow what they know should be done today.
